Driving Lessons
The standard lessons are
designed to improve your driving skills and gradually build your
confidence until you are ready to take your practical driving test.
The duration of the lessons may be either 1, 1.5 or 2 hours.
At the beginning an hour is fine, but as the course develops it is
recommended that the lessons are extended to 2 hours, in order to
drive to and from the towns in which the practical test takes place.
Those students that participate in 2 hour lessons (on a weekly or
fortnightly basis) obtain better results and pass their test quicker
because they are able to practice the test route and manoeuvres more
frequently.
Intensive Driving
This is an option for those
that wish to fast track to the driving test. If you have prior
experience of driving and have passed your theory then you may
attempt your test within one week via our intensive course
programme. However, if your practical driving skills are
limited, then the more successful option is based on two weeks.
The first week will be based on a uniform two hours in the morning
plus 2 hours in the afternoon. The following week will be
less structured and geared towards polishing those all important
manoeuvres and observations.
Practice Manoeuvres
During the course you will
be introduced to the four major manoeuvres, these being, the Bay
Park, Parallel Park, Turn in the Road and the Reverse around a
corner. Each of these manoeuvres will highlight the key
elements of safe and controlled driving and will incorporate clutch
control, road positioning, observation and hazard awareness.
Driving in Town - Busy Traffic and within Speed Limits
Having
developed the core skills and hazard awareness required for safe
driving you will be ready to drive in the town amongst busy traffic.
Here we must pay special attention to pedestrians, traffic lights,
side roads, and other road users such as bicycles and
motorbikes. You will also learn to select the most appropriate gear
for the road conditions and recognise areas in which speed limits
are enforced but where repeaters are not necessarily displayed.
The Theory - Hazard Perception
Theory advice
will given during the practical lessons. Please remember that when applying for
the theory test that the nearest test centre is in Bath and that
both the Theory and Hazard Perception must be passed at the same
time.
The Driving Test
The driving test will require
a booking of 2.25 hours minimum. This includes the hire of the
instructors vehicle and an hours practice before the exam. You
are free to use your own vehicle but you must make sure it is
insured for this purpose as you will be driving a vehicle as a
learner without supervision. Please make sure you bring with you, both parts of the driving
licence and the theory certificate.
The test is approximately
45 minutes and includes 2 possibly 3 manoeuvres. Before the
test you must be fully prepared for an emergency stop, lane
changing, hazard awareness, observations, hill starts and some under
bonnet checks.
The Next Step
On Completion of the Course, you may like to consider the Pass Plus,
in order to Reduce Car Insurance Costs. Possibly, you may wish
to participate in a couple hours practicing for Defensive Driving or
the Institute of Advanced Motorists Exam. May be you would
like to be an Instructor! |
